Chughtai Lab receives biopsy specimens from all over Pakistan. Specimens are transported to Lahore in sealed containers with 10% buffered formalin. The specimens are grossed by resident pathologists under consultant supervision. Most biopsies are reported within 3 days. Unusual and challenging cases are signed out after discussion on multi-head microscope. Unexpected or urgent reports are communicated to the referring physician directly by the pathologists. The department signs out more than 24,000 biopsies every year.
